Spend a month painting in Berlin within a focused studio environment combining structured teaching, independent work, and group critique.

Designed for both beginners and developing artists, the programme offers an immersive introduction to oil painting alongside the space and time to build your own work.

What the Programme Offers

  • Twice-weekly teaching sessions (demonstration, critique, guided exercises)

  • 24 hour key access to the Neukölln studio for independent work

  • Ongoing feedback within a small group setting

  • Integration into the mentoring programme’s group critiques

  • Final presentation of work at the end of July

This structure allows you to move between concentrated teaching and extended periods of independent work — essential for developing a sustained painting practice.

Approach

The programme is rooted in direct observation and material understanding.

Across the month, sessions address:

  • observation and translation into paint

  • value structure and composition

  • colour relationships

  • surface, layering, and material process

Teaching is adapted to your level, while maintaining a clear framework that supports progression.

Schedule Overview

The programme runs from 1–31 July 2026.

  • Week 1 begins with an extended orientation and first teaching session

  • Weeks 2–4 follow a consistent rhythm of teaching and studio practice

  • Final week focuses on resolving work and preparing for presentation

  • any one with desire or serious commitment to learn how to paint and establish the practice

  • students seeking structure alongside independence

  • artists preparing for further study, exhibitions, or developing a body of work

A basic familiarity with painting is helpful, but not required. Beginners can take this course and immerse themselves in the world of painting.

Payment Option

Payment may be made in three instalments:

€483 upon enrolment
€483 due 1 July
€484 due 15 July

  • continued into further study and residency programmes

As of April 2026 100% of alumni mentoring programme artists leaving the mentoring programme have achieved at least one of the three points above.
