What is the journey int0 colour pastels workshop ?
A vibrant one-day drawing workshop working with soft pastels on paper from a live model. You will start by exploring the classical renaissance techniques and then lose yourself in a modernist colour explosion.
The day will be hosted by Tadeus, your tutor and Gabriel, your model. This workshop is entirely suitable for beginners and those wanting to improve in drawing techniques. We will take you from renaissance sanguine and chalk drawings, through two-tone on color paper to pictorial use of soft pastel.
We will set up with easels in our beautiful studio and you will work through various drawing exercises and in turn directly applying all theoretical knowledge you are given in practice. All demonstrations are followed by guided life studies. The class includes unique exercises that have been developed by Louise Thomas with pastels on paper.
Trust us, By the end of the day, you will have a serious portfolio of color drawings on paper! Following the workshop there will be an evaluation session with Tadeusz to discuss artworks produced and have a one on one evaluation.
What is included in the course ?
All materials, tuition and studio equipment are included in the course fee. That includes the life model, drawing surfaces, paper, pastels, easels, mediums and tuition throughout. Some students like to bring their own brushes.
What do I need to bring ?
Please bring clothes that can get dirty and creative energy. Aprons and haus Shoes are here but you can bring your own slippers! We will send out details over the course prior to the day you attend, the email will contain all the information you need to know about the class and the studio. If you are feeling slightly unwell please do not attend! Just let me know :)
Where ?
This one day with Tadeus Fopp will be taught in our beautiful Neukölln attic studio in the heart of the Neukölln art district far from the bustle of the street. Some people describe the space as a hidden 500 year old Florentine workshop. The space is roughly 100 years old and in the spring / summer you can enjoy the roof.

An architect by formation, art gallery assistant by trade will teach you classic renaissance techniques and help you with that hard shortening trick.
Biography of the model Gabriel Andrés
Gabriel Andrés Asturias Alonso Ekenberg Marenco Rudeke Samayoa Jort Villacorta was born in Guatemala almost 23 years ago, having an incredibly inspiring loving mother and a father who taught him endurance he decided to move to Berlin when he graduated from high-school at 18, there he started living life unconventionally and testing the boundaries of survival (as he puts it) making new friendships who turned into loyal institutions to his life and self growth. He then discovered that all he ever wanted to do was help people who needed and asked for assistance. His hobbies are simple pleasures, his childhood gamecube which his mother brought back from Guatemala with a batch of games; but his pride is taking good care of a cornucopia of slug, 4 beetles, and an escargatoire of several species of snails in a terrarium he once constructed one early spring.
Burnt Sienna Philosophy
Burnt Sienna offers two core courses in drawing and painting, these courses take place once every season. The courses have been developed by Louise Lenz over the last 6 years. Louise is a lead tutor at the newlyn School of art. The traditional teaching techniques and methods Louise brings from this highly respected art school in Cornwall are brought to Berlin and work alongside contemporary methods including curation of an exhibition of student work in a local gallery where restrictions allow. Unlike other independent art schools in Berlin, Burnt Sienna Art School Berlin limits class sizes in order to ensure the highest level of artistic development and flexibility towards methods of teaching. After the foundation courses students are awarded with a certificate.
Entry requirements
Basic English language although Polish and German are understood and spoken too. This course is suitable for both beginners and those looking to improve. No experience is necessary and beginners are welcome.
Booking and refund policy
If you want to join the course please get in touch with Louise via Email or whatsapp (017631665401) to arrange an informal studio meeting. If you are not in Berlin we can do that via telephone. Once we have had the meeting to secure your place on the course you are required to pay a deposit. Once the fee is received your place on the course is secured. The remainder is due at the start of the course.
