Biography

Monika Kalinowska is a Polish artist based in Berlin. Born in Legnica in 1987, she studied international relations in Wrocław and moved to Berlin in 2012. Her practice developed through textile weaving and fibre art before turning to oil painting.

Her figurative paintings explore vulnerability, embodiment and the psychological presence of her subjects. Feminist literature and questions of representation inform her work, while her experience with textiles continues to shape her approach to surfaces and layering. Her work has been shown in Berlin, London and Seoul, including a solo presentation at Moderna Selecta in 2025.
